(SAN FRANCISCO) California Assembly Speaker pro Tem and Democratic candidate

for Congress Kevin Mullin announced the endorsements of Chinese American leaders. A fundraiser hosted by the Chinese community will be held on April 2 at Far East Cafe in Chinatown.

The leaders who endorse Mullin running for Congress include State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Phil Ting, Evan Low and Alex Lee, San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu, SF Supervisor Connie Chan and Police Commissioner Larry Yee.

Under the new redistricting map in effect starting 2022 for the congressional districts, the 15th District expands from the Northern San Mateo County to the Southern part of San Francisco, including Excelsior, Visitacion Valley and Portola which are Asian neighborhoods.

Congresswoman Jackie Speier who represents the 14th District for the past 14 years announced not seeking re-election in November last year. California Assemblymember Kevin Mullin who serves as Assembly Speaker pro Tem since 2014 is one of the candidates running for Congress to succeed Speier. Speier endorsed Mullin when he announced to run.

“California’s Congressional District 15 (CD-15) is home to over 50,000 Chinese American voters. As a whole, Asian American residents number over 183,000 in CD-15, making up 36.8% of the voting age population in the district,” said Mullin who thanks for the support from the Chinese American community in San Francisco.

“I’m honored to have earned the trust of these tireless and selfless public servants and the support of so many members of the Chinese American community,” said Mullin. “These courageous leaders are an integral and irreplaceable part of the social fabric of our San Mateo and San Francisco neighborhoods. In Congress, you can be sure I will hear the voices and concerns of every one of our Chinese-American neighbors and work to take on inflation, ensure the highest quality public education is available to students, deliver safer streets, and work to cut red tape and taxes so small business owners can thrive.”

The upcoming April 2 fundraising event in San Francisco Chinatown is co-hosted by Police Commissioner Larry Yee, Portola Community Leader Hazel Lee, Northeast Community Federal Credit Union CEO Lily Lo and Finance/Business Leader Wilson Chu.

The honorary co-hosts of the Chinatown fundraiser are Fiona Ma, Phil Ting, David Chiu and Connie Chan.

“I’m proud to endorse Kevin Mullin for Congress,” said Ma. “Kevin’s unblemished character and track record of leadership as Assembly Speaker pro Tem make him uniquely qualified to replace Jackie Speier in Congress where I have every confidence he will continue to deliver for working families. Kevin Mullin has fought to amplify the voices of the Chinese-American community and is laser focused on the bread-and-butter economic and quality of life issues that Chinese-American

residents care about.”
