Chinese Hospital celebrates 125th anniversary of cultural and in language healthcare service for the community


(SAN FRANCISCO) Chinese Hospital, the oldest and the only non-profit community-owned hospital serving the Chinese community in the country, celebrates its 125th birthday in 2024.
This year's gala was held on May 9 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco with a special recognition on the 125th anniversary of Chinese Hospital's cultural and in language healthcare service for the Chinese community since 1899.
Dr. Jian Zhang, CEO of Chinese Hospital, also served as the keynote speaker at the gala to look back the hospital’s history for the past 125 years. "Our 125th anniversary is not only a celebration of our historical achievements but also a strong affirmation of our commitment to the future of healthcare in our community," said Zhang.
"Being recognized as one of Newsweek’s 2024 Best-in-State Hospitals is a testament to our unwavering commitment to culturally competent and exceptional healthcare," Zhang added. "Each chapter of our history reaffirms our commitment to these values."
Three community leaders who have provided extraordinary contributions to the Chinese Hospital for decades were honored at the gala.
Philanthropist Arthur Chan was honored as the Top Donor of the Year for his transformative $1.25 million contribution towards establishing a cancer center in the hospital’s 1979 building which is located next to the new hospital building.
Dr. Collin Poy Quock who practiced in Chinatown for several decades was honored with Outstanding Physician Leadership Award for his innovative approaches to medical care and commitment to educational leadership.
Former Chair of the hospital’s Board of Trustees James Ho was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his leadership and contributions to the hospital.
