Lowell & Balboa the winning team at 1st Inter-League High School Lion Dance Competition


(SAN FRANCISCO) A team of Lowell and Balboa High Schools students is the champion for the first Inter-League high school lion dance competition in San Francisco Chinatown. The winners of the photo contest were also announced in the awards ceremony on May 21.
In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Norma Lau, founder of the Lion Dance Me, hosted the first high school lion dance competition on May 14. Three teams participated in the competition. Each team represented two high schools. The champion was announced on May 21 which was one week after the competition and also the day to end the vote counts on social media to determine the winning team.

A photo contest was also held to any participants who captured the moments of the competition on scene. Yvonne Yiu, a City Council Member of Monterey Park and candidate running for the State Controller on June 7 primary election, sponsored the photo contest to show her support to San Francisco Chinatown.
The awards ceremony was also a farewell party for the Lion Dance Me team members who are the new graduates of high schools going to colleges this fall.

Ananda Tang Lee, Isabella Yu, Anthony Huang, and Jennifer Guan were awarded with $1,000 scholarship each and an Apple electronic device. They all joined the Lion Dance Me for their entire high school years.
