(SAN FRANCISCO) The City’s Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA ) announces to resume the enforcement of peak hour tow-away zones starting this week on Monday, September 20.

Jeffrey Tumlin, Director of SFMTA, also announces this week that SFMTA is conducting a survey to collect feedback from the community on future service changes.

The rush hour towing programs were temporarily suspended in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the city has reopened and traffic has returned, the SFMTA announces to resume to tow away vehicles during peak commuter hours starting September 20.

Spokeswoman Jessie Liang reminds vehicle owners who park at tow-away zones during restricted peak hours that the vehicles will be subject to citation and towing. “Tows help the SFMTA facilitate the flow and safety of transit and traffic, support economic activity and maintain safe streets, “ said Liang.

“The enforcement will not apply to Shared Spaces that allow merchants to use sidewalks, full or partial streets and other nearby outdoor spaces under San Francisco’s Public Health Orders,” added Liang.

Tumlin held a press briefing this week to update the current situation of Muni service in which seven all day lines still remain suspended.

“Now the Muni service is at 75% of the pre-COVID hours,” said Tumlin. The SFMTA is considering three alternatives for future Muni Service and will present their proposal to the Board in November and December for approval.

SFMTA begins the multi language survey earlier this month to seek feedback from riders on the alternatives which include to restore same service, increase service on high ridership lines, and balance some routes.
