Public art at new affordable housing 730 Stanyan accepts application until 4/28

(SAN FRANCISCO) 730 Stanyan, a new affordable housing development with 120+ units in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, is accepting applications for its public art program. The local Asian and minority artists are encouraged to submit their applications by the deadline on April 28.
It is a joint venture effort by Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) and Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC), in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD).
The 730 Stanyan project will house low to moderate income families as well as families who have experienced homelessness. The site fronts the historical commercial Haight Street and the residential Waller Street. It is located at the entry to the Golden Gate Park on Stanyan Street. The construction will begin in 2023. The tenants are scheduled to move in at 2025.
“As nonprofit co-developers of the housing, CCDC and TNDC realize the important historical, cultural, and site context of 730 Stanyan and are collaborating to create a high-quality living environment and useful ground floor programs open to residents and the surrounding neighborhoods in District 5,” CCDC and TNDC stated on the project’s website. CCDC and TNDC announces the public art program with a $400,000 budget which is open for the artists to apply.
“Making it Public,” a free 5-week Workshop for the artists is offered to the applicants to cover the practical and tactical matters, such as contracting, insurance, and community engagement. The Workshop will consist of five 90-minute virtual sessions (one per week) starting March 17 and ending April 14.
