Letter to the Editor: Yes on 50 is our best defense

Dear Editor,
We have to stop bringing only chants and songs to this battle for democracy if we have any hope of preserving the values we cherish. That means voting “Yes” on Prop 50.
Republicans in Congress have gutted research into life-saving treatments for cancer. They’ve slashed Medicaid and access to healthcare. They’ve allowed Trump to cut deeper into family budgets with piercing tariffs and sharp inflation.
Their job is to represent the people who elected them. But instead of doing what most of us want – like making thoughtful decisions on funding for senior services and healthcare or negotiating with trading partners without thrashing us, as consumers – they have chosen loyalty to an individual. An individual who is funneling our tax dollars to his billionaire friends and dispatching armed thugs into our communities, while they sit silently by and watch.
We don’t need more of these pandering cronies in Congress. Voting “Yes” on 50 gives us a fighting chance to have the representation that is our Constitutional right – representation we cherish.
